I acknowledge that there is a case to be made that contemporary technology facilitates communication, and maybe it can promote positive social norms when used mindfully and responsibly, but my anecdotal observation has been the opposite. Look at a dozen tables in any local restaurant, and you’ll find two dozen people who are staring at their phones and totally oblivious to the person across from them. And it’s a worrying trend among teenagers that they prioritize virtual connections over face-to-face interactions.
