Topic: A Helpful PersonPart 3 (Discussion):What motivates people to volunteer and help others in their community?Well, I think there"s probably a couple of things. The first one is the obvious, like the desire to help and to give back to the community. You know, particularly if the community has helped you in the past, you might want to return the favour and go out and help people who are in difficult times.The second reason I think is perhaps slightly less altruistic, and that is that people want some kind of emotional connection. So in the modern world, we know that there"s big problems with loneliness and people really have trouble, like, meeting new friends. So doing something like volunteering could be a very good way of meeting other like-minded people and kind of building your social circle.So yeah, I think there"s a few different reasons that people would do that.What are the benefits of volunteering for both the individual and the community?Well, I think the obvious benefit for the community is that they get someone helping them. They get that source of labour or source of skills, source of knowledge. So that"s of course very helpful.I think for the individual it"s a chance for them to feel good about themselves, as I said before, to meet new people and just get them out of the house and perhaps using the skills that they"ve developed over many years in a way that makes them feel good.Do you think it"s the responsibility of individuals or governments to provide support to those in need?Well, I think this depends. It depends on the country because every country is set up differently with taxes and welfare states and things like that. In the UK, for example, we generally consider it to be mostly the government"s responsibility for those who are most seriously in need.But it depends what sort of need. So for example, if it"s the need to be loved by your family, that of course is, that can"t be the government"s responsibility. That must be the responsibility of individuals, of the people around that person.But if it"s something like people have serious health issues, then in the UK we would say we pay taxes, we have a National Health Service, so that would fall under the responsibility of the government.编辑：Moon李▼IDE英创教育
