30. 帮助孩子Part 2Describe an experience that you helped a child描述一次你帮助小孩的经历You should say :When it was How you helped him / herWhy you helped him / herAnd how you felt about it 示范答案：I"d like to talk about a time that I helped my nephew to learn Chinese calligraphy. My nephew is a smart kid who"s quite intimate with me. When he was in primary school, he wanted to learn calligraphy on a whim. And he resorted to me since I am a calligraphy whiz. So I decided to help him and teach some Chinese calligraphy skills to him. At the beginning, I walked him through the ABC of calligraphy. He couldn"t even hold the painting brush steadily. So I put an egg in his palm and told him that it would help him hold still. And after that, he tried several times to write a very basic and simple stroke. But since he has the sloppy handwriting, the strokes looked like a disaster. I tried to be patient that I told him the key to learn the skill is to find the inner peace. With my help and instruction, he finally mastered the skill. His Chinese calligraphy writing finally started to be pleasing to the eyes. He had a very strong sense of achievement and he was so grateful for my help.Part 31. Do you often help kids? How?Absolutely. I always help my nephew to finish his homework since some of his assignments are over his head. I could walk him through some effective measures and enjoy his gratitude when he makes achievements. Plus, I will donate my outgrown and worn-out clothes or even some money to the needy children in the poor areas. It doesn"t cost me much, but will be of great assistance to them.2. Why is it necessary to do volunteer services?For some high school students, they do volunteer services to get the certificate which could build up their resume and help them get enrolled to a better university. But on a lighter note, helping itself is always a pleasure. Volunteering activities can give us a sense of self-worth. As the saying goes, sending out these roses can leave the fragrance on our hands.3. What can schools do to develop students’ awareness of volunteering?There are a lot of ways to tackle this. In the short term, teachers themselves could participate in the volunteering activities so that the students will learn from role models and imitate their behaviors unconsciously. In the long run, schools could instill the importance of volunteering into their children by having some lectures about reciprocity. It could raise the children"s awareness and provoke their helping nature.4.Who benefits more from the volunteer services, the volunteers or the people helped?In terms of individuals, I guess such services could benefit the volunteers more, especially when it comes to the high school students. They can get the extra credits from the volunteering and this experience could add some touches to their CV. But in regard to the entrepreneurs, they can help people on a larger scale.
