英创教育「早鸟早读」计划第【3261】天明早8:30不见不散!??
Part 1 – LibraryQ: Do you often go to the library? Not that often, to be honest. I wish that I went more. In fact, I remember when Iwas growing up, I would go all the time to the library. But ever since I graduatedfrom university, which was a long time ago, I haven"t really had the need to go to alibrary. The only thing that I use a library for these days is as A quiet place to study, if I"mtaking an exam, some kind of qualification, or if I need to do some thinking work. But in terms of like renting books, I generally just buy books and get them onto myKindle. So that part of going to a library isn"t very useful for me anymore.Q: What do you usually do in the library?Well, as I said, I mean, it"s mostly just focusing on some kind of deep thinkingwork.I find that the, famous thing about librarians saying shh, telling everyone to bequiet is actually very useful for me because I"m very easily distracted in loudplaces like coffee shops. But in a library I"m able to sit and really get deep intowhatever it is that I"m working on.Q: Did you go to the library when you were a kid?Yes, I did a lot actually. I was a big reader as a kid. I loved reading different novelsand things like that. And of course those. That was in the days before Kindles, before ebooks. So unless you were going to a bookshop and actually buying books, which I didn"thave the money for as an eight year old, the only other choice was to go to thelibrary and to rent books. So yeah, I"d probably go to the library once every twoweeks, something like that.Q: Do children in your country often go to the library nowadays?I think probably less than they did. It depends on the age of the child. So veryyoung children before school age can go for different activities, in the library. And then I think like sort of 15, 16, 17 year olds when they"re preparing for theirexams will often go to the library to study as well. But in general, I do think thatpeople go to the library a little bit less, both children and adults, compared to howit was, let"s say 20 or 30 years ago.Part 3 – Second-Hand Items and RecyclingWhy do people buy second-hand clothes?Well, I think the main reason that people buy second-hand clothes is to savemoney. So in the UK we have charity shops or thrift shops and those shops areplaces where people can give clothes items that they—let"s say they bought it fiveyears ago, they"ve used it enough times and maybe now it doesn"t fit them or theydon"t need to use it for some reason—and they give it to the charity shop and thenthe charity shop is able to sell it at a lower cost to people who might be lookingfor that kind of thing but can"t afford to buy it firsthand. And very often you can find things that are incredibly good value. So things likeleather jackets that would be worth $300, you can find them for $50 in asecond-hand clothes store. So I think saving money is probably the biggest case.Should the government encourage people to recycle items?Yes, I think so. I think it"s important to recycle. I don"t know, to be honest, howeffective recycling really is because I"ve heard some people say that in the end theplastic things or the other cans that we recycle all end up in the same landfill sitesas the regular waste—the kind of daily waste. But I like to think that if people are like studious, and take their time to wash theplastics that they"ve used and then put them into a separate bin, that that plasticwill be able to be recycled, and reused and then will cause less environmentaldamage. And so yeah, I do think that the government should encourage it. I don"t think thatthey should make it absolutely a requirement. I don"t think that there should bepunishments for not recycling. But I think if we can encourage people throughcampaigns of awareness, that"s definitely going to be something to improve ourrelationship with the natural world.▼IDE英创教育
