这次早读Part 2要聊“描述一顿不寻常的饭”，得回答这几个问题：● 啥时候吃的● 在哪儿吃的● 和谁一起● 为啥不寻常

我有回不寻常的饭，是两年前去苏格兰玩的时候吃的——跟俩朋友一块儿，琢磨着试试当地特色，就选了爱丁堡一家老pub的哈吉斯。

那回我们只听过“哈吉斯”这名，压根没关心过里头是啥。等看到菜单上写着“羊内脏塞胃袋里煮”，虽说听着不咋诱人，还是咬咬牙点了。

I’d heard of it before but never really paid attention to what it was made of. When I saw it on the menu, the description didn’t exactly sell it — sheep’s organs cooked inside a stomach — but we decided to order it anyway.

端上来模样挺奇怪的，可入口居然还行——香料揉得匀，配着土豆泥和芜菁，刚好把那股子冲劲压下去。虽说不会想每周都吃，但确实比我想的强多了。

When the food arrived, it looked a bit strange, but I was surprised by the taste. It was spiced quite well, and the mashed potatoes and turnips on the side balanced it out. It wasn’t something I’d want to eat every week, but it was much better than I expected.

*特别的是那环境——pub里挤得满满当当，还有现场音乐，哪儿像吃饭啊，倒像凑了个小活动。就是这菜味儿加这热乎劲儿，让这顿饭记到现在。

What made the meal stand out was the setting. The pub was packed, and there was live music playing, so the whole thing felt more like an event than just dinner. I think that combination — the food itself and the lively atmosphere — is what made it such a memorable and unusual meal for me.

Part 3要聊“在餐厅吃饭的优缺点”，观点在这儿：

Part 3 – What are the advantages and disadvantages of eating in restaurants?

优点嘛，*实在的是省事儿——不用自己炒菜洗碗，省出不少时间；再就是能尝鲜，家里不会做的菜外头都有。

The main advantage is convenience — you don’t have to cook or clean up, which saves time. Restaurants also give you variety, because you can try dishes you’d never make at home.

缺点也不少：贵得快，尤其英国外头吃饭不便宜；还有些菜盐多油大，不健康；更有的地方又吵又挤，想放松根本不可能。偶尔吃顿行，天天吃可顶不住。

On the other hand, it can get expensive quite quickly, especially in the UK where eating out isn’t cheap. Another downside is the food itself; a lot of restaurant meals are heavy on salt or oil, so they’re not the healthiest. And then there’s the atmosphere: some places are noisy and crowded, which makes it hard to relax. So it’s great once in a while, but not something I’d want to rely on every day.

还有个Part 3问题：“你们国家的人重视食物文化吗？”回答在这儿：

Part 3 – Do people in your country value food culture?

算重视吧，但跟意大利、日本那种以美食闻名的国家不一样。英国以前的菜主打一个“清淡”，现在可国际化多了——连小 towns都有印度菜、中国菜的馆子，味儿还特地道。

I’d say yes, but in a different way to countries that are famous for their cuisine, like Italy or Japan. In the UK, food culture used to have a reputation for being quite plain, but now it’s much more international. You can get amazing Indian or Chinese food, and even small towns have restaurants from different parts of the world.

现在人们还特在意质量——农夫市场、有机菜、电视里的厨师节目，把在家做饭又带火了。同时pub文化还是没变，对好多人来说，吃饭就是为了凑一块儿聊天，不是守着啥传统。所以啊，食物文化是重视的，但更看重“尝鲜”和“体验”，不是死守着单一的民族风格。

People also care more about quality now — things like farmers’ markets, organic food, or TV chefs have made cooking at home more popular. At the same time, the pub culture is still strong, and for many people eating is tied to socialising rather than tradition. So yes, food culture is valued, but it’s more about variety and experience than sticking to one national style.
