It is quite common these days for people to travel internationally to improve understanding of other countries. However, some people argue that there will be no need to get to foreign countries considering all the information is widely available on TV or Internet.
Admittedly, knowledge gained from on TV and Internet features a wider range
than that gained from travelling. Abundant information can be available from a variety of sources ranging from documentaries and other tourism programs produced by professional broadcast companies to travel stories, adventures and images from avid travelers. In comparison，what people experience is probably incomplete and partial, sometimes lopsided. Besides, by watching TV and browsing through pages online people can form a general conception of a country with the least effort in terms of time and expense.
In spite of that, I believe that traveling still has much of a role to play in people’s life where online information can never reach a comparable level. Traveling physically, which involves all the senses, allows people to have a more firsthand experience and in-depth insight of the local scenery and cultural heritage. For example, apart from having a general idea of a country, people can engage themselves in all sorts of activities such as basking at the beach, interacting with the locals in-person, strolling the streets of a historic city or having a taste of the local cuisine.
In conclusion, I think the importance of traveling around cannot be denied. It is no secret, even less highfaluting talk; traveling abroad has much more to offer which are beyond the reach of simply sitting in front of the screen.
